1. Edirne, close to the borders with Greece and Bulgaria is a culturaly rich historical city situated in the thrace region of Marmara District.
2. In 2 A.D. Roman emperor Hadrianus named the city after him and the city began to be called Hadrianoupolis.

7. Sinan the architect’s masterpiece Selimiye mosque is located on a hilltop in Edirne. The mosque was ordered by Ottoman Sultan Selim II to Sinan the Architect. The most important feature of the mosque is that the mosque can be seen from everywhere in Edirne. The mosque also has an important place in world art as well as Ottoman art.
8. Old Mosque was built by the order of Sultan Mehmet I. It was constructed between 1403- 1414, it is the oldest mosque in the city center of Edirne province. The entrance, crown gateand pulpit of the mosque are made from white marble. North and West sides of the mosque are more decorated. Badges and spirals around the entrance arch of the narthex were made during the reconstruction.
9. Üç Şerefeli Mosque was constructed between 1438-1447 by Sultan Murat I. and the Mosque fall within the early and classical period of Ottoman art.
10. Beyazid II. Külliye is a historical social complex in Edirne. It was ordered by Sultan Bayezid II. And constructed by Hayreddin the Architect between 1484 - 1488
11. In the city of Edirne there are also buildings which belong to christian and hebrew culture; Italian Catholic Chruch inside the fortress, Sveti Georgi Bulgarian church in Kıyık and Konstantin-Helena Church in Kirişhane and Büyük Edirne Synagogue located in the fortress. The city also have three grand bazaars called; Selimiye Arastası, Bedesten and Ali Paşa
12. UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting Held in Paris evaluated the nominations of Edirne Selimiye Mosque and Complex to the World Heritage List and the committee decided to include in the World Heritage List unanimously.
